How to Actually Execute a Phone-Free Ceremony

An unplugged ceremony is a beautiful thing. It means no glowing screens ruining the professional photographer’s shots, and guests who are fully present in the emotional moment. But how do you enforce it?

Signage is Crucial

Place a large, clearly legible sign right at the entrance to the ceremony space. Keep the tone light but firm. "Welcome! We invite you to be truly present with us during our ceremony. Please turn off your phones and cameras."

Have the Officiant Make an Announcement

Before the procession begins, the officiant should make a quick, polite announcement reminding everyone to pocket their devices until the reception.

Once the reception begins, feel free to encourage as much phone usage as possible—especially to upload to your digital guestbook!
